Final Music Video

Below is our final submitted version of our music video, we all feel that it has hugely improved from our first draft. What contributed to this to the group as a whole being a lot more organised when it came to filming. An experienced lead singer (Max) who has been in other media projects added to the better, more professional video as a whole. Finally another key difference from the draft is that we all participated in the editing of the final video. When we edited the draft video, it was mostly edited by Jake which has not been the case for the final version. Overall myself and and everyone else in the group feel that we have produced a video that we are all proud of.

Final Filming

We filmed the final shots for our music video at the Stay Free Studios in Leicester which is the nsame location we used to film our draft. We decided this was the best thing to do to keep consistance as we knew the layout of the studio and we had already identified how to solve problems we encountered from our previous time there.
We found from our footage of our draft that the shots were too dark, so we took an inspection light (as shown in the Animoto post) and we shon the light facing a clear white board which lit the entire room. We originally had the light facing directly at the stage but we as the actors found it too bright to look onto. After looking back at the shots we filmed we realised it had worked.
For the final video we brought in a new actor to have the role of the singing as we felt the person we used for our draft didn't give us the image we felt was needed to be the frontman. The new actor brought in gave us the image we wanted as the frontman and he fitted with the image. We went to the studios more organised with a set table of what we were going to be filming and in what order. This made filming more efficiant as we knew what we were doing before we got there. It was also important we filmed at the same place as we knew how were going to film and the positions to put our camera in so we didn't waste time sorting this out.

New shot schedule

For the final video shoot I made a more detailed shot list that would make it much easier when filming each different shot. They sorted into the lead singers shots with the lyrics which needed to be sung the shots duration and other notes. Lead guitarist, bassist drummer and whole band shots this made organising each individual shot for the shoot much easier than it was shooting the draft version. As we filmed each shot we ticked each shot this way we knew which shots we had left to film and what shots were done. This increased our overall efficiency whilst filming.

Final filming photos

We all took various photos when before, during and after filming it shows that a lot of effort has gone into the filming process and preparation before hand. We also tweeted about with Jake's costume which on the draft was just a white t shirt, in the final version the costume was a hoody which we adjusted by the strings being tied together we decided that it would be best for the hoody to be worn unzipped without the strings tied. Max also brought with him a trilby hat with him which we asked Jake to try on to see what it would look like. In the end we decide it was best not to wear it as it would change his identity too much from the draft.
Overall filming felt much less pressured as we had prepared much better and due to the more detailed shooting schedule it made each shot much easier to capture. The camera that we used to capture the pictures was my camera which is a Nikon SLR D60 it enabled us to capture a variety of different shots whilst filming.  Jake also needed some pictures for his Digipak so he took photos of Jack and I captured some of Jake playing the drums which he used in his final filming. Our front man max was easy to work with as you just needed to tell him what he needed to do  and he would do it without a problem so it was a lot easier to capture all of the lip syncing. Max had also been in some other music video so he had an idea of what he needed to do this meant his singing looked more believable.

Music Video-Adaptations

For our final version of our music video we are changing several parts/ways in which we are doing it.

-We now have a frontman as well as the rest of the original band from the draft which will help us to include more lyric based shots which will help to make the video more interesting.

-Due to the lighting issues that we had in the draft-(it was too dark!)- we have acquired two floodlights, which we are going to place in different places during filming. This will brighten the shots and we can also use them to create different effects.

-We are also adapting the costumes of some of the band, in an attempt to make the band fit into the genre better.

-We also now have the lyrics of each section of storyboard wrote down which will help us to get through filming a lot quicker.

-We are going to film the drumming shots from an angle rather than head on due to head on shots looking too boring!

-For the montage at the beginning of the video we are going to take some shots to be able to make that quicker.

Final Digipack and Poster

Final Digipak and Poster changes

I have made some changes based on my teachers feedback changes include re positioning of the logos on the poster. Balancing the track listings and an alternative front cover. I have added a catalog code to the spine as well.  When I was implementing these changes it also occurred to me that a lot of albums next to each track list the track duration so I added this as well. I feel although these changes are small they have made much improvement to the final design. I also did a version of the poster with the hmv and itunes logo removed to see if that looked better without them. One more thing ive added is by including a front cover version that is similar to the vampire weekend album contra layout. The font is very similar and the layout is the same.

Final Digipak and Poster (Before Final Improvements)

Note - Feel free to leave feedback on what you think of my poster and digipak.
This is my final digipak I have drastically changed my idea from the first draft following feedback that was given to me by my teachers. The idea behind it is that its set out like a day after a banquet, I wanted to get a different abstract picture of the setting instead of a normal picture. I used a Nikon SLR to take photos with long exposure which means more light would be present in the image. I also slightly moved the camera so that a blurred effect would happen. This gives the narrative that its from a drunken persons eyes on what they are looking at. I've tried to keep the digipak as simple as possible which I think has made it turn out quite effective. I had to change the idea for what I was doing for the 3 inside panel due to me unable to capture the shot I was planning to use. What I intended to do was a close up shot of a beer glass with it focused on the residue on the inside to illustrate it has just been drunk. The shots I took however did not turn out that well so I scrapped that Idea.

My poster also uses the main image which has turned out quite well I thought. Information such as where you can buy it (shown by the Itunes logo and HMV logo) and the release date of the album are clearly shown to make it as effective as possible. It follows the rules of thirds with each section split up into 3 different parts. So I have made sure it follows the layout of existing posters.

Digipak- Final Idea

For my Digipak I have been looking at various ways in which to adapt it.

I have been researching Andy Warhol's 'Campell's Soup'.  I am going to put a painted effect on my cover and track listing to create the Andy Warhol effect. I am doing this as it has been done before for 'The Velvet Underground and Nico'. I want to use irony as 'Lo!' is not a typical grooved very well known band/ style, unlike Andy Warhol's artwork which is known all across the world.
My album cover and track listing will consist of the front and back view of a tin of 'Spam'. This is following on from the Andy Warhol pop-art look. I have also been inspired by the 'Oasis' singles 'Definitely Maybe' album.

The box is meant to resemble a cigarette box, however it contains several CD's from 'Oasis'.

Digipack so far

Im not sure on what legal writing to have on the back. also, how to improve it.
